Spring Break 2006
Arizona - California

Early in January it looked as though I may get "Spring Break" off from work. Chris was also able to get this time off. I asked the family where would you want to go if I get time off for their schools spring vacation. We usually try to go south for spring breaks and north for fall breaks taking a break from the prevailing hot or cold temperatures. In recent years we had visited Florida for the spring breaks but even though we had great times there the family suggested we go elsewhere this spring. Maris suggested that we go west of the Mississippi. I told her that in April that would mean the Southwest for warmer temperatures. After some discussion we decided to go to Arizona and San Diego, California. I was familiar with both of these areas. Chris and I had spent time in Scottsdale visiting her brother years ago so she knew the area and was happy to revisit. I like to visit the ocean at least every other year and this trip would enable me to do that and show my children the Pacific Ocean. Once again we relied upon Laura our friendly travel agent to help plan the trip. I spent a lot of time with the internet for research for the particulars for family activities. So on the day that DST finally went in to effect here in Indiana I awakened my family at 3:30 AM and dragged them to the airport for what was to become our "best vacation ever". Day 1

After waking up my family at 3:30 in the morning, I put them on the flight to Arizona. We arrived in Phoenix and then drove to Carefree.

The drive from Phoenix to Carefree was beautiful, the desert and mountain views were special and the 90 degree temperatures welcomed. Our "villa" at Carefree provided Chris and I our own apartment space and the kids their own with a bedroom for each, a patio and living room for them to share. We unpacked, went for a walk  and then met for planning the week's events.
